Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCP)

The Children & Families Act (2014) sets out new requirements to be implemented in September 2014 for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) from birth to 25.
Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Learning Disability Assessments (LDA) will be replaced by individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHC) plans for new families entering the system, whose children meet the SEN assessment criteria. All current SEN statements are also required to be transferred to an EHC Plan.
For any child with an existing statement of SEN, that the old legislation in the Education Act 1996 still applies. So that the usual Annual Review process applies to these children until a transfer review takes place for the statment to be transferred to an EHCP. The transfer plan for parents can be found on your local authorities website.
All Year 11 and 9 students will be transferring to an EHCP in the 2014/15 school year. The school will be contacting you to support and guide you through this process as will your Local Authority EHCP Co-ordinator.
Parents / carers of years 7, 8 and 10 students will be invited to the usual annual review meeting.
